Jerome from NL you are correct, cocaine is expensive. Cocaine is the drug of choice for offshore oil workers who are subject to mandatory routine drug testing. Cocaine clears their systems in two or three days and then they test clean. Of course, these offshore oil workers have the money to afford it. On the flip side, they are not stupid enough to be using cocaine while offshore on the job. Just like no one drinks alcohol on the job. Although, if they were tested for alcohol useage, chances are good it'll show they used alcohol sometime in the last few weeks (maybe even the day before they went offshore). I know 4 offshore workers and 3 of them use cocaine. All three would rather be using weed because it is impossible to overdose on it and it's cheaper, but it stays in their systems for 6-8 weeks so that's why they say they chose cocaine. They just need to be careful with it. I'm not condoning any of this, I'm just sharing what I know.

The cure is lot of care and treatment that goes beyond the symptomatic fixes. Why does one become hooked on these nasties? What is the profile of a typical addict if any? What are other jurisdictions doing and have success to show? Is there need to stop the methadone and look at other options that will help the sick? This is a disease and needs to be comprehensively deat with by the nation. In the meantime educate the kids of this evil. Please do not blame one person. This is a large issue that needs lots of thinking.

Methadone is just as bad as being addicted to hard drugs such as oxy contin. It's actually worse to come down off methadone then oxys. Ive been there first hand with someone very close to me.
What the public doesn't see is how easy it is to get on methadone. If i for example went on a drug binge for a month, went in to a doctor who perscribes methadone, pee in a cup and banm thats it my name is now on the waiting list. No and i mean NO history check into my drug usage. Its actually insane howeasy it is.
Your not heping people by no means your just substiting the addicts drug of choice with methadone.
Methadone is a drug for a drug!!!
Methadone is for people who are to weak to come off drugs the right way. Its for people who cant afford their drug of choice daily. Now instead of a $50 or more high a day all it cost is $7.50 or less.
Now you can go out and buy coke and get away with it. Get high all night and then in the mornign you get up and go get your drink. This is crazy!
Im gonna say about 97% of the people i know who are on methadone are still using dugs and getting away with it.
Ive been to the methadone doctor office and seen people there high. I seen a guy once who could barley talk? How do you see that and still give them the prescription? Ive seen drug deals in the parking lots of both the drug stores and the doctors offices.
Also for people who say methadone doesn't make you high you are wrong. it may no be an all day high but you still feel that same 'high affect. they go on the nod just as if they just had an oxy high. I wouldn't trust someone on methadone to drive a car anytime before they get their drink or about 2 hours after they get it. Its dangerous!

Also what the public doesnt see is the SELLING OF METHADONE ON THE STREETS just like the selling of oxy, coke, and whatever else. People can sell their carries for up to $150 depending on the dosage. $150 for a $7 drink! i think thats drug dealing but hey correct me if im wrong! There is soo much Methadone in the street its crazy.
Pee is also for sale and methadone patients who are dirty, they all have a trick when it comes to peeing at the doctor office or even at the hosiptal.

I THINK ALL the MONEY the government is paying out to the methadone doctors and anything else that has to do with methadone should be SPENT ON BUILDING A REHAB.

OPEN YOUR EYES PEOPLE AND RELAIZE METHADONE IS DOING NOTHING FOR DRUG ADDICTS!
A drug for a drug isnt helping anyone... sadly!

Sad to see- but common--that most folks including some MD's have no comprehension how methadone works. Long term opioid addiction often destroys the brain's ability to produce natural opiates (endorphins). Methadone replaces the missing endorphins without causing any kind of high in stable patients (something most people do not realize), and allows them to feel--and function--normally. However, it is NOT a cure --there is no cure--and for most patients, this must be a long term--even life long--treatment, just as with so many other chronic health conditions--diabetes, schizophrenia, epilepsy, bipolar disorder, etc. We don't think poorly of medications that treat those diseases being used long term--this is the same.

As for cocaine use--firstly, methadone does NOT treat addictions to anything but opioids. People who are poly-addicted must seek other treatment for other addictions. Blaming methadone for not treating cocaine addiction is like blaming insulin for diabetes for not treating your high blood pressure.

That being said, it has been found that methadone treatment has the highest effectiveness rate of ANY addiction treatment, and has the highest number of patients that are FREE of ALL illicit drugs of any treatment modailty available.

I KNOW people who sell their drinks to others for a few buck soo other people can double up and get a high. So why do we treat one addiction with another addiction? drugs are out of control here for years and all that most doctors are doing is getting people addicted to another drug not helping people get off the original drug addiction. The fact that cocaine is in high use really comes as no surprise, the past 10 yrs I have seen a rise in people I know who are doing such drugs and its unfortunate they can't get the proper help like detox, or rehab. Instead the medical people decide to use methadone instead. What do they think, this will help? at;east make sure the clients are taking their drinks not selling to other for others to get a high haha. Methadone does work for people who are ready to change but you really need to commit to it. Some people are so caught up in the drug way of life; the process of getting the drugs to doing them to the friends you have who are doing the same thing. Dr.White is amazing but he can only do so much. He gives you the information and the tools you need, but to get better is up to you. Using any form of narcotic pain killer makes you sick if you don't have it,that is why methadone is prescribed to its users for a very long time. It depends on the persons body how much of a drop in methadone you can take most people get dropped about 4 mg a month, some people less. This way you are weaned down over a long period of time it makes it easier to get off methadone and drugs all together. It woks for people who want it

I have to do mandatory drug testing annually for my employer to retain certifications. I have to empty my pockets and leave my purse with the nurse before entering the restroom to pee in the cup. There is a little therometer sticker on the cup so if the pee was any older than a few minutes the temperture would be lower and they'd know I tampered with the test. This eliminates the posibility of additcs using their uncles urine.

So legalize everything Drug Addiction is a personal, medical and social problem it is NOT a criminal problem and our laws need to reflect this. If drug addiction is a problem- and it always will be whether legal or not, then wasting money prosecuting junkies for getting addicted (You smokers shouldn't think your high and mighty over anyone else with an addiction) is a collasal waste of money that would be better spent funding rehab centers and daily drug tests if desired by an addict. no waiting lists, no underhanded money laundering and tax dollar wastage under todays laws.

LSD and Marijuana are shown to be more effective for dealing with addictions. MDMA and psybocilin as well as Fly Agaric mushrooms have also been used to treat drug addictions. DMT is a drug illegal to make and posses under canadian law but its made in our pineal glands and ALSO has treatment possibilities. These drugs are psychedelics and expand ones mind and makes them truly aware. No im not full of it I know personally. I am not a drug addict but I refuse to respect unjust drug laws and the right to my own body.

Methadone is a drug also that gets you high. I really don't understand how it is legal. I asked a MD friend of mine (be it one who doesn't specialize in drug addicton) and he said people just end up on Methadone for years and years. They never really kick their addiciton habit, it is the addiction habit that is the problem not cocaine or alcohol or oxy, these people are prone to any vice. I know I have an addictive personality but I work hard at controlling it.

Methadone is for people who are to weak to come off drugs the right way. Its for people who cant afford their drug of choice daily. Now instead of a $50 or more high a day all it cost is $7.50 or less.

I thought that a cocaine habit/addiction was a very expensive one.
How can someone who ''...is up all night and in bed all day'', afford to be using cocaine?

There is no point of giving him Methadone. This kid isnt ready to quit and he wont. He is only doing this to keep you off his back. His drug use will get worse until he hits bottom. Then and only then will getting help be of any use to him.
Throw him out of the program and treat someone who wants it. That kid isnt ready and your wasting our tax dollars.
