Talks are continuing between Ocean Choice International (OCI) and the Fish, Food and Allied Workers (FFAW), with the union's chief negotiator saying that they're making good progress.
Negotiator Ben Baker said that representatives for the union were in talks with OCI Friday, and things are going well. The contract discussions will pick up again Monday.
Workers at six seafood plants, represented by the FFAW, voted 93 per cent in favour of strike action last week.
Outstanding issues in the talks, according to the union, include concessions the company wants on wages, overtime, holidays and vacation pay.
The plants are located in Bonavista, Dildo, Marystown, Port Union, Port au Choix and Triton.

And for what reason would the union, on behalf of plant workers, and and the processors, in their own self interest, not make good progress? In the absence of the key players, the fisherpersons in the boats on the sea, they can lick the platter clean.
It is grossly unjust that those who daily face the elements and ever increasing costs must eek out a living, while those solely dependent on them ever improve themselves. -
