Chile's wine-making region has suffered severe damage resulting from the Feb. 27 earthquake which is showing an impact on the local economy.
The Newfoundland Labrador Liquor Corporation (NLC) announced today it is experiencing continued delays from products arriving from Chile as a result of the earthquake.
Blair Boland, NLC's category manager for wines, stated that "Chilean wines have enjoyed a lift in sales over the last year; red wines have increased 10 per cent while whites have increased 21 per cent. Once supply issues are back on track, I expect to see the growth trends continue from this country."
RenÉ Merino, President of Wines of Chile, expressed that he is "certain that dispatches and compliance with commercial obligations will return to normal within a very short period of time".
