An official with North Wind Aviation in Happy Valley-Goose Bay is confirming that the plane missing in Southern Labrador belongs to the company.
The Piper twin-engine plane, which can seat up to eight people, left Happy Valley-Goose Bay at 8:30 a.m. Wednesday on a charter flight to Cartwright.
"All I can do is confirm we do have a plane that is missing, and the search is ongoing," said Terry Lee.
A pilot and one passenger was aboard the aircraft.
The pilot had radioed the airport in Cartwright to report his intention to land, but the plane never arrived.
Rescue officials have said the plane was about 110 kilometres from Cartwright when the radio message was sent.
Two Hercules aircraft, a Cormorant helicopter from Gander, and a civilian helicopter from Happy Valley-Goose Bay are involved in the search.
Weather conditions are being described as unfavourable.
According to its website, North Wind Aviation is an Aboriginal partnership company offering charter air services throughout Canada.
The company has been in operation since June 2001, and operates two Piper aircraft.
