The search for a missing Piper 31 twin-engine airplane that went missing earlier today in Southern Labrador is continuing.
A military spokesman told The Telegram this afternoon that a pilot and one passenger was aboard the aircraft.
It was flying from Happy Valley-Goose Bay to Cartwright.
The pilot had radioed the airport in Cartwright to report his intention to land the plane, but it never arrived.
Searchers are not sure how far the plane was from Cartwright when the radio message was received.
"All we can say is the search area is somewhere en route between Goose Bay and Cartwright," said Maj. James Simiana, a public affairs officer with Joint Task Force Atlantic in Halifax.
Two Hercules aircraft from Greenwood, N.S., a Cormorant helicopter from Gander, and a civilian helicopter from Happy Valley-Goose Bay are involved in the search, said Simiana.
He described weather conditions as "not favourable."
He could not name the company that operates the plane, or whether searchers had received an emergency signal from the craft, which he described as white with black markings.
He said it appears the airplane can accommodate between six and eight occupants.
