Toronto -

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency is warning consumers to avoid
Fresh Express brand romaine lettuce-based salads.
The agency says the salads may be contaminated with salmonella.
Affected salads have use-by dates of May 13 through May 16 and an "S" in the product code.
The salads have been distributed in British Columbia, Alberta, Manitoba, Ontario and Quebec but may have been distributed nationally.
There have been no reported illnesses associated with the almost 20
varieties of the product included in the alert.
The alert was initiated in response to a recall by the manufacturer, Fresh Express Incorporated, of Salinas, California.
