The Royal Mail announced today that St. John's native Moya Greene has been appointed as its new chief executive.
Greene, who has been the president and CEO of Canada Post since 2005, will be the first woman ever to head the British postal service.
"I am delighted that Moya is joining Royal Mail," said Royal Mail chairman Donald Brydon. "She will bring energy, clear thinking and a proven leadership track record - as well as hugely relevant experience - to the business at an important moment in its evolution."
In an e-mail message to staff, Anthony Wilson-Smith, vice-president of communications for Canada Post confirmed that Greene has resigned her position in Canada.
"I think Moya will agree with me that the Royal Mail's interest in her reflects very positively on Canada Post as a whole, and the way our company is viewed by its peers," he wrote.
Greene was not available for comment today; according to a spokesman for Canada Post, she was out of the country on a personal matter.
