Eastern Health senior vice president receives national award

Louise Jones, senior vice-president and chief nursing officer with Eastern Health, was recognized by her peers across the country Sunday for her outstanding contribution to the Canadian health system.
According to a news release, during the 67th annual general meeting of the Canadian Healthcare Association (CHA) in Winnipeg, Jones was presented with the 2010 CHA Award for Distinguished Service. It was one of two national awards presented by the CHA.
The other award is the 2010 Marion Stephenson Award for Outstanding Contribution to Community Care which was presented to Elizabeth Ross of British Columbia.
"On behalf of the Board of Trustees and all employees of Eastern Health, I offer sincere congratulations to Louise," said Vickie Kaminski, President and CEO of Eastern Health. "Louise has an untiring dedication to Eastern Health as well as to the people we serve. She has garnered respect among her colleagues in this province as well as across the country. She is also well-known for her leadership ability having served in senior management roles during several reorganizations of the health system and through very challenging times."
Since 1949, the Canadian Healthcare Association has recognized excellence in health leadership through its Award for Distinguished Service.
The award recognizes outstanding contributions for achievements in furthering progress and governance in the health sector; consistent and noteworthy service and leadership, particularly at the national level; personal efforts to assist and advance the efficiency and performance of Canadian organizations; personal efforts to foster public policy and legislation related to heath care; and furtherance of public policy and legislation related to health care.
"It is an honour for me to receive this award and to be recognized by my colleagues in this way," Jones said. "Over the past 35 years I have had the privilege of working in a variety of positions and have worked with many exceptional individuals. In the various positions that I have held I have always challenged myself and worked toward improving and enhancing the care provided to the people of this province."
Throughout her career, Jones has occupied progressively responsible positions in the health-care field with Eastern Health and its predecessor legacy boards. She has been a nurse, nurse educator, an assistant executive director, vice president - adult acute health care, chief operating officer adult acute care (St. John's) and latterly, interim president and chief executive officer with the Eastern Regional Health Authority in Newfoundland and Labrador.
