Awesome Story and Marvellous outcome!! This is the outcome when people head out expecting the Best but prepared for the Worst!
    Great job by all.

Kayaking (of all things) in what I can only read into as a remote location requiring air-evac, is questionable. Cellphones sometimes work in 'remote areas', GPS has been standard issue for 2 decades now (but have a backup), some GMRS radios (or similar) should always be included, the list goes on... Just like pex tubing makes everyone a plumber these days, it seems a cellphone and GPS combo is licence for novices and adventure seekers to take that extra risk - not saying that these people were (1), not saying that these people were (2), not saying that these people were (3), but I don't know that. But there seems to be increasing number of people in that category in recent years if you follow the news. Coast Guard should increase their budget accordingly if they are to be planned safety nets for these great outdoorists.
