St. John's author Joan Clark will be inducted into the Order of Canada at a ceremony in Ottawa Friday.
Clark has written 15 book - children's and adult fiction - which focus on outport life and vikings in Newfoundland.
In a news release, the Order of Canada said she was being recognized for her literary achievements as well as her contributions to the artistic community.
Clark helped to found two writers' associations, and co-founded the literary journal "Dandelion."
Clark is one of 32 new members of the Order of Canada - the country's highest honour for lifetime achievement and community service. There will also be 12 people named as officers of the Order, and one person, Peter Munk, will be named a companion.

Congratulations to Ms. Clark! For those of you who have not yet read any of Joan's work, you truly have to see what you've been missing. Latitudes of Melt was stunning, the imagery is just amazing. I couldn't put it down and was sad to finish it. Beautiful work. Well done, Joan!
