St. John's Public Libraries have nominated Lisa Moore's "February" and Michael Crummey's "Galore" as their entries for the international IMPAC Dublin Literary Award.
IMPAC is a globally-active, Florida-based management consulting company that sponsors the literary award - valued at about $122,000 Cdn.
The award accepts nominations in all languages, from more than 100 public library organizations, in over 50 countries. It was started as an initiative of Dublin City Council and is still administered by Dublin City Public Libraries.
Past winners of the prize include Gerbrand Bakker's "The Twin" (2010 winner), Michael Thomas' "Man Gone Down" (2009) and Canadian Rawi Hage's "DeNiro's Game" (2008).
2010's nomination from St. John's was Kenneth Harvey's "Blackstrap Hawco."
According to the award webpage, the full list of nominated titles for the 2011 prize worldwide will be made public in early November 2010.

Just to be nominated for this award is an honour in itself. Both Crummey and Moore are to be commended for two great works. If you buy only two Newfoundland and Labrador books this summer, choose Galore and February .
