Six mental health and addictions community groups throughout the province will benefit from $225,000 in annualized core funding announced by the provincial government today in St. John's.
Health Minister Jerome Kennedy said the funding will support community groups that are helping people on a daily basis to improve their lives and help overcome their mental health and addictions issues.
"Our government is committed to making strategic investments to foster development of programs and services to help those living with mental health and addictions issues," Kennedy said. "Community organizations have an important role to play in supporting individuals and families dealing with mental health and addictions issues. Our government is pleased to have a very positive relationship with these organizations and is committed to working together to ensure mental health and addictions programs are available to those who need them."
Community groups receiving funding are the Consumers' Health Awareness Network Newfoundland and Labrador (CHANNAL), Eating Disorders Foundation of Newfoundland and Labrador, Schizophrenia Society of Newfoundland and Labrador, Turnings, Recovering Addicts Fellowship Team (RAFT), and Peter's Foundation. This new funding complements $432,000 in one-time funding recently announced to support various projects being undertaken by mental health and community groups across the province.
