Ottawa, through the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA) and Parks Canada, has provided $786,000 in funding to the Gros Morne Institute for Sustainable Tourism (GMIST).
The money will help the experiential tourism institute on the province's west coast to enhance the content and delivery of its curriculum.
The announcement was made today by National Revenue Minister Keith Ashfield during a visit to Rocky Harbour.
"GMIST is playing an invaluable leadership role in a segment of the global industry that is new and rapidly evolving," Ashfield said.
The Government of Canada's support for GMIST includes $699,000 from ACOA and $87,500 from Parks Canada.
GMIST advances the quality and success of Atlantic Canadian tourism operators through an array of customized courses focused on the development of the experiential and sustainable tourism marketplace. The investment will help attract new clients and raise the profile of GMIST. It is expected that up to 660 participants will enroll in the Institute's programs thanks to this funding.
