Central Health announced today the installation of replacement X-ray equipment in the Baie Verte Peninsula Health Centre, Baie Verte and Dr. Hugh Twomey Health Centre, Botwood.
According to a news release, the work will take place over a series of weeks and will require an interruption in provision of these services.
X-ray services at the Baie Verte Peninsula Health Centre are currently not available. Effective June 28, X-ray services at the Dr. Hugh Twomey Health Centre will not be available until further notice.
Once the installation of this new equipment in these facilities is completed and services are re-instated, Central Health will advise the public.
During this disruption in service at the Dr. Hugh Twomey Health Centre, it is recommended that clients needing X-ray services travel to Central Newfoundland Regional Health Centre. Persons in the Baie Verte area can go to Green Bay Health Centre in Springdale or the Central Regional Health Centre, Grand Falls-Windsor. Central Health apologizes for any inconvenience this may cause.
As part of Central Health's ongoing quality improvement initiatives, a number of older general X-ray systems in some of the smaller communities will be replaced. These brand-new units are state-of-the-art within their category. They will help maintain and improve the quality of Central Health's X-ray services within these communities and surrounding areas.
The list of new equipment acquired over the last three years is valued at over $10-million and results from consultation and cooperation between Central Health, the Department of Health & Community Services, the other Regional Health Authorities and the Newfoundland & Labrador Medical Association.
