The Canadian Red Cross assisted five adults and one child who were forced from their St. John's home Sunday afternoon due to a fire.
The Red Cross provided the adults with emergency lodging and meals Sunday night and will meet with them again today to assess further needs. The child spent the night with another relative.
Family members were home at the time of the baze at 48 Franklyn Ave. and escaped without injury.
The St. John's Regional Fire Service said the blaze was mostly confined to the basement of the home, which is half of a duplex. Upper levels received smoke and water damage and electricity was cut because of the fire.
Residents of the other half of the duplex were away when the fire began. Some smoke entered that home, as well, but was minor in nature.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
