Memorial University has named an interim dean to the department of Student Affairs and Services.
According to a news release, Dr. Robert Shea, an assistant professor in the Faculty of Education, will take on the role while the search for a permanent candidate is carried out.
Current dean Dr. Lilly Walker will conclude her term on July 31.
"On behalf of the students of Memorial and the entire university community, I want to thank Dr. Walker for her dedication and hard work during her term as dean of student affairs and services," said Dr. Gary Kachanoski, president and vice-chancellor.
"She has been a tireless advocate for our students and is largely responsible for the growing national and international reputation that Memorial is developing in the area of student services."
Shea will commence his duties Aug. 1.
"I'm pleased to welcome Dr. Shea to the senior executive team," Kachanoski said. "He brings excellent credentials and a background in student services in particular, as well as his expertise in career development and experiential learning to his new role as acting dean of Student Affairs and Services. Helping students fulfill their career and academic goals has been a key focus of his work."
Shea has taught in the Faculty of Education since 2006, specializing in the areas of post-secondary and adult education.
