Provincial police say four men are dead and two others critically injured after a plane went down in a remote area of northern Quebec.
Police say the float plane crashed in the Lac-Saint-Jean region, in an area known as Chute-des-Passes, about 250 kilometres north of Chicoutimi.
The two injured have been airlifted to a hospital in Chicoutimi.
Surete du Quebec spokesman Sgt. Benoit Richard says it's too early to say what could have caused the crash.
He says the incident is being investigated by provincial police and the Transportation Safety Board.
Police haven't released the names or ages of the victims.
Authorities were alerted to the crash after a call came into the joint rescue co-ordination centre at CFB Trenton, Ont. around 3 p.m. ET Friday saying a Beaver float plane from Lac-Des-Quatre headed to Lac-Marchane was overdue.
CFB Trenton spokeswoman Capt. Jennifer Jones said four aircraft were dispatched to search for the plane - one from Quebec, one from Greenwood, N.S. and two from Trenton. The carrier that reported the overdue plane also sent out a search craft.
The crash site was found around 5 p.m. and search and rescue teams later found four men at the crash site with no vital signs and two in need of immediate medical assistance, Jones said.
The search and rescue teams remained on site until late Friday night.
"Our priority is looking after the site and looking after the casualties," said Jones.
Friday's incident is the third fatal crash in Quebec in the last three months.
On June 23, a small plane crashed near the Quebec City airport after the pilot reported an engine failure. All seven people on board - five passengers and two crew - were killed.
In May, another plane crashed in nearby L'Isle Aux Grues, killing four people. That flight slammed into an embankment 15 minutes after takeoff and burst into flames.
