Man accused of assaulting infant daughter will be tried in March

The trial of a man who allegedly assaulted his infant daughter has been set for March 7.Colin James Matchim, who is accused of aggravated assault, was arraigned at Supreme Court in St. John's Monday.According to court documents, he "unlawfully wounded, maimed or endangered the life of August Matchim" on March 17, 2009.She was 3 1/2 months old at the time.

While details haven't been disclosed in court, family members have told reporters the baby suffered damage to the left side of her brain after being shaken.

Matchim, who was 23 at the time of the alleged incident, is originally from Eastport.
