I am one of the authors of the play - including the composition of the title song. Your dates are incorrect. The play begins on Jan. 29, 1941. That was the night that the troop ship, Edmund B. Alexander, arrived in St. John's, during a storm. During the first scene in the show, the characters talk about whether or not the Edmund B. Alexander will fit through the narrows. This is VERY easy to confirm. The play then progresses to the end of the war. Whoever is giving you your information, obviously has not done any homework.
