St. John’s musician and narrative songwriter, Mark Bragg delivers his much anticipated third release “Your Kiss” on Sept. 13 via Blue Drop Music/ Fontana North. After touring Canada, Germany and Ireland on past releases, Mark will hit the road once again in Canada this month.
“Your Kiss” is a fitting addition to his macabre musical carnival. Bragg showcases the deepest and darkest of human tendencies, revealing in each of us what we are capable of, what we fail to do and what we fail to avoid. Bragg is as strong a storyteller as he is a musician. His music pushes along the lyrical story — the parts words can’t suffice. Bragg and his band of butchers will summon you to strut your stuff in this parade we call life.
Says Bragg, “These tunes were written over the course of six years. I stew over words and ruminate forever until I give up out of frustration or finally craft something I can live with. It’s funny how as I writer I can spend so much time worrying about how words sound together, and barely pay any attention to the content. The ideas, images and stories are always there. It’s chipping them out of the English language that makes me feel more like a craftsperson than an artist when I’m writing. Debates about art vs. craft in music are my favourite.”

“Your Kiss” was recorded live off the floor in Stage House Studios in St. Philip’s, N.L. Everything was recorded in the same room at the same time … bass, drums, guitar, keys, vocals, band backups, everything. Not the common approach these days, but the best way to unleash the truly raw energy and feeling of a band when they’re really cooking. One listen to “Your Kiss” and you too will be swept into the vortex that is Mark Bragg.
