Many foggy years ago, Mark Hiscock (right) and Chris Andrews (left) were double booked at a small pub in St. John’s. Rather than cancel one performer, the owner suggested they play together, and so was born Shanneyganock. Joined by longtime bassist Bob Pike and Billy Sutton on drums, the group has since charmed many through their stirring ballads, powerful shanties, and rib-rattling jigs and reels. Music from their eight CDs has been featured on “Home Brew” compilations, Warner Record’s “Atlantic Standards” compilation and “Ed’s Up” on OLN Network with The Barenaked Ladies. In 2007, the group received four Music Newfoundland and Labrador awards, including Entertainers of the Year, as well as a 2008 East Coast Music Award nomination for Roots Group. They have performed in Doha, Qatar, and in Memphis, Tenn. (Folk Alliance), and have completed several cross-Canada tours. Their newest album, to hit the shelves Nov. 2, revives the repertoire of the famous McNulty Family. To hear a preview cut CLICK HERE. — Submitted photo
