A Stephenville artist living in St. John’s has combined his passion for fashion and painting in a new exhibition on the west coast.
Brent Coffin is a graduate of the visual arts program at Grenfell College in Corner Brook, where he specialized in Renaissance painting.
Then he shifted focus to fabric art, making corsets and gowns and drawing inspiration from the late designer Alexander McQueen and Givenchy.
Recently, Jamie Lee Cormier, the owner of J.L. Gallery in Corner Brook and his former college mate, accepted six of his pieces for her gallery.
“It’s the first time in my life I really felt (what it’s like) to sell my pieces,” Coffin said.
“My latest collection is called ‘Living Gowns’ and the idea of it is the gowns women are wearing come to life and through them express their inner strengths.”
In the future, he’d like to have his gowns exhibited in a show with his paintings.
