Matthew Hare is a singer/songwriter from St. John’s who has been making a name for himself around the local music scene for more than 10 years. After playing for years with his old band, The Rents, he has finally struck out on his own and released his first professional solo recording. His new record, “This Time Last Year,” was recorded in 2011 alongside his incessant gig schedule. Recorded with the help of local musicians Jerry Stamp and Ian Foster, “This Time Last Year” is a bottling of Hare’s energetic, emotional and frenetic live performances. The CD release show is scheduled for Tuesday, Jan. 24 at The Levee, beginning at 8 p.m. with guests Grant Kingston and Sean Panting. Your next chance to hear him live is at The Bull & Barrel Thursday, Feb. 2 with Jerry Stamp. For a sample of the new release, listen to “If This Doesn’t Kill Me” at thetelegram.com.
