As the article itself suggests, the issue is not that people are running barefoot - the issue is that people are going full throttle without giving their bodies time to adjust to the shock of going shoeless... How do they expect not to have problems? Ask anybody about minimalist running and they will tell you to slow down and adapt to the new conditions. Nevermind the fact that you need to adopt a completely different style of running... Tell an elite Ethiopian athlete who has ran barefoot for his entire life over rough terrain that it is unnatural! It's Nikes that are unnatural...
