Rea (Maria White) is a 21-year old singer songwriter from St. John’s, Newfoundland and is currently enrolled in the Fine Arts (Visual Arts) program at Memorial University of Newfoundland and Labrador Grenfell Campus in Corner Brook.  A talented visual artist in a variety of media, Rea has now extended this same gift to her song writing and performing.

Her lyrics have been described as honest and witty, her harmonies smart and natural. Rea’s style is unique and yet shows influences of such artists as Nora Jones, Sarah McLaughlin and Priscilla Ahn. Rea began playing the guitar just 7 years ago under the tutelage of Anne Divine and Charlie Barfoot, Rea has written instrumental pieces for the guitar but has now expanded to include both song writing and performing.  She has played at a number of venues in St. John’s and is a regular performer at McHugh’s Bar in Corner Brook where she has received much praise and a loyal following.  This past winter Rea opened for Juno-award-winning Vancouver-based Indie band, Said the Whale.

Rea recently released her first EP entitled Green Popsicle, which is also the name of the title track. The album is available on iTunes as well as at Fred’s Records in St.John’s.  The EP features six original compositions that range from Celtic rock, to folk, to pop, to whimsical fantasy and was produced by well-known Atlantic Canadian musician, Kurt Von Hahn. With each song, Rea’s pure and versatile voice gently lures the listener to move with the beat and sing along.
