While germs and virus are one part of the influenza and cold equation, doctors keep forgetting another factor, how we dress. For example, in the Corner Brook area, on cold days, defined as temperatures below zero degrees, I see some people wearing shorts and in some cases, even girls and women are going bare-legged wearing sandals or ballet flats. They don't realize that what they wear on a cold day can make you sick. In fact, my Grandmother taught me that if you don't dress appropriately for the weather during winter months, then you're likely going to get sick. Might sound like an old wise tale, but numerous studies proved it correct. In other words, its ok to wear shorts or go bare legged and wear just sandals or ballet flats on a warm or hot day, but not when its freezing cold outside.
