The sea is the heart and soul of this land and we neglect its harvesters at our peril...for, if we let rural parts of the province die, we will have extinguished our reason for being, or at least for having carved out 500 years of history. Lest you think I am being overly sentimental, how much last impact do you think oil will have on our real culture? It is but a means to an end..... whereas the sea came to define our forefathers. We have neglected and mismanaged the treasures of the sea in recent decades but it still has a bounty that could sustain many more....except that governments have chosen to neglect the many for the few. If anything is soul-destroying...it is the crass and filthy politics at work in this province and elsewhere. Thanks to people like Jim Wellman for keeping our history alive!
