Pomeroy, dubbed by Festival 500 as “one of the world’s finest operatic tenors,” performs one of his numbers for the audience. According to the Festival 500 program listing Pomeroy’s biography, it says he made his Metropolitan Opera stage debut in the title role of “Les Contes d’Hoffmann” under the baton of James Levine and had previously sung the role of Faust at the Metropolitan Opera in the Parks concerts to go with numerous other credits to his name. Titled “Canada Greets The World,” the opening gala concert of the 2013 Festival 500: Sharing the Voices, opened before a full house at the St. John’s Arts & Culture Centre on Wednesday night featuring Witloof Bay of Belgium, Polokwane Choral Society of South Africa, Minnetonka Chamber Choir from Minnesota, Jeunes Chanteurs d’Acadie of New Brunswick, the Maryland State Boys Choir, Newfoundland and Labrador’s own Shallaway, Afterglow and Goulds own David Pomeroy.
