The Wreckhouse International Jazz and Blues Festival gets underway in St. John’s Wednesday, with a free lunchtime concert at Rocket Room.
The festival will bring jazz, blues and international music to town for four full days and nights, which will include concerts, workshops and other events.
The Dana Parsons Quintet will kick off the festival Wednesday at noon, as the first daily free lunch-hour shows at Rocket Room, above Rocket Bakery on Water Street.
The festival’s first day will continue in the evening with shows at Rocket Room, the LSPU Hall and the Fat Cat, featuring Parachute Games, Gorilla Mask, Trifolia, the Roberto Lopez Afro-Colombian Jazz Orchestra, Scott Goudie and Mark Belbin and Australia’s 8 Ball Aitken.
The festival’s headline show will happen at the St. John’s Arts and Culture Centre Thursday evening, when the John Scofield Überjam Band takes the stage.
