St. John’s — Bridges To Hope is gearing up to help families get their children ready for the coming school year.
Derek Winsor, program director for the Bag To School Program, says the program has grown for the sixth straight year and more than 707 children arenow registered.
Winsor said in a news release that Bridges To Hope is again partnering with 13 community and neighbourhood groups to distribute the bags and supplies.
“Over the past six years, this program continues to grow and help families get ready for school and ensure all students have the materials to begin the school year,” Winsor said.
This year, the program is in need of the following items:
‰ 500, one-inch, three-ring binders;
‰ 7,000 duo tang folders;
‰ 600 erasers;
‰ 500, 12-inch rulers;
‰ 300 geometry set;
‰ 300, six-pack coloured markers;
‰ 300 four-pack exercise books;
‰ 500 glue sticks;
‰ 300 pencil cases;
‰ 300 pencil sharpeners.
Donations can be made this week to the Bridges To Hope office at 39 Cookstown Rd. The bags will be packed on the weekend and will be given to families next week.
