Award-winning writer Scott Bartlett of St. John’s is officially releasing his second novel with an event at The Ship pub tonight.
Bartlett, winner of the 2012 Percy Janes First Novel Award and the 2011 Lawrence Jackson Writers’ Award, Bartlett has self-published “Taking Stock,” a novel exploring the stigma of mental health issues.
“It’s about a young man struggling with mental illness while attempting to navigate an exploitative modern workplace,” said Bartlett, 26, in a written statement. “The story’s intensity ratchets up quickly and will make readers reconsider popular thinking on mental health.”
At tonight’s book launch, Bartlett will share the stage with a number of up and coming local performers, including writers, musicians and comedians. It’s his effort to give back to the community that has given him so much support, he said.
Admission to the “Taking Stock” book launch is free and it will get underway at 8 p.m. The book will be available for purchase at the event and as online at scottplots.com.
