St. John’s — St. Michael’s Printshop will launch its 40th anniversary celebrations tonight, with the unveiling of the first in a series of specially-commissioned prints.

The printshop is collaborating with five artists known for their work at the facility to create the series: John Hartman of Ontario, Tom Hammick of the U.K. and local artists Christine Koch, Veselina Tomova and Scott Goudie.

Hartman will be the first to print his edition, and will unveil his print at a public reception at the Christina Parker Gallery on Water Street tonight from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m.

Other anniversary events are planned over the next year or so, including an exhibit on the history of printmaking in Newfoundland and Labrador curated by printshop studio manager Mike Connolly, who will also give a talk on the topic.
