Based on the novel by Kevin Major, “Hold Fast” is the story of 14-year-old Michael, moved from an outport community to his aunt and uncle’s house in the city after his parents are killed in a car crash.
Unable to settle and bullied at school, Michael runs away with his cousin, Curtis.
The movie has screened at festivals across Canada and in Europe, and won the Audience Award in the Teen Eye Program at the Seoul International Youth Film Festival.
It’s currently screening at the International Youth Film Fest in Poznan, Poland.
Directed by award-winning filmmaker Justin Simms, whose previous films include “Hard Light” and “Down to the Dirt,” “Hold Fast” was written and produced by Rosemary House and stars first-time actors Avery Ash, 15, of Hants Harbour and Douglas Sullivan, 13, of St. John’s, alongside actors such as Molly Parker, Aiden Flynn, Andy Jones and others.
“Hold Fast” will be released in theatres across the country next year.
