St. John’s — Two renowned doctors will join local speaker Jeremy Bennett in St. John’s this week, to speak about pharmaceuticals, eastern medicine and the power of the mind.

Doctors George Grant and Effie Chow will speak at “The Secrets of Health” event, to be held Saturday afternoon from 1-5 at MUN’s Inco Centre.

Grant is a pharmaceutical toxicologist and former senior consultant for Health Canada, as well as founder of The Academy of Wellness. He’ll give an hourlong presentation called “Learn What Pharmaceutical Companies Don’t Want You to Know.”

Chow, who was appointed by then-U.S. president Bill Clinton to the White House Commission on Complementary and Alternative Medicine Policy, is an expert in Qigong energy healing and acupuncture, and has long been working to integrate traditional Chinese medicine with western medicine. She’ll speak on the power of chi, or life energy.

Bennett, a motivational speaker and author of “The Power of the Mind: How I Beat OCD,” will present things regular people can do to defeat illness. Bennett was recently named Personality of the Year by the World Organization of Natural Medicine.

“It’s my dream to create Newfoundland as a more healthy and health-conscious community,” Bennett said in a written statement.

Tickets for “The Secrets of Health” are $79 ($59 for students) and are available by visiting
