Actor/filmmaker Ruth Lawrence’s annual “Shine Your Light on Tibb’s Eve” fundraiser for the St. John’s Women’s Centre is happening again this year, with a lineup that includes Broadway actor Jonathan Munro and recent Giller Prize-shortlisted author Lisa Moore.
Other performers at the Dec. 23 show at the LSPU Hall will include Shelley Neville and Peter Halley, storyteller Dave Paddon, singer/songwriters Bob MacDonald, Steve Mahoney, Colleen Power and Sherry Ryan, band Solid Ground, and Paul Rowe and Allan Byrne, with an excerpt from their show, “Christmas of Long Ago.”
“In the past three years, we’ve raised over $30,000 for the Women’s Centre. With this year’s lineup of audience favourites and award-winning artists, we have another great show to kick off the season right,” Lawrence said in a news release. “Tickets were selling even before the lineup was announced. That’s the loyalty of our annual audience.”
Kongsberg Maritime Simulation has donated $500 to the benefit, and has issued a challenge to other individuals and businesses to follow suit. The company will match any $500 donation made.
The St. John’s Women’s Centre provides support and programs for women and children, including a free clothing boutique and personal care pantry, healthy living workshops, and support groups for women in abusive relationships.
Tickets for the event are $50, which includes a $25 charitable receipt and a complimentary beverage before the show. A live auction, cash bar and artist merchandise table will also be on site. For tickets, call 753-4531 or visit www.rca.nf.ca.
