Megan Barnes and Courtney Fowler will present an evening of song at LSPU Hall Thursday
From Sondheim to Disney’s “Frozen” to Neil Patrick Harris’ “Nothing Suits Me Like a Suit” from the TV sitcom “How I Met Your Mother” — two local performers are suiting themselves up for an eclectic night of music this week.
Megan Barnes and Courtney Fowler are presenting, “Suit up!,” part of the Best Kind Cabaret Series, at the LSPU Hall Thursday evening.
Barnes, who holds a bachelor of music in theory and composition, is a vocal coach at Etcetera Productions, and teaches musical theatre classes at Dance Studio East. She has starred locally in productions such as “Cats,” “Godspell,” and, most recently, “Shrek.”
Fowler is a singer and songwriter, voice teacher and dancer, who has performed in “Footloose,” “Les Miserables,” and “Wizard of Oz,” among other productions.
“These two women have been steadily making a name for themselves in musical theatre productions here in St. John’s over the past few years, and we wanted to give them an opportunity to really show what they can do. We’re talking serious pop vocal powerhouses,” said Kyle McDavid, Best Kind Productions’ musical director.
“Over half of the evening will be devoted to the ladies’ performance of songs originally written for mens’ voices. Hearing these songs interpreted in a fresh way, in a completely different timbre, will be a treat, for sure.”
Tickets for “Suit Up!” are $20 and are available at the LSPU Hall box office, by calling 753-4531, and online at rca.nf.ca. Showtime is 8 p.m.
