A group of budding local musicians took home some pretty sweet prizes from the Newfoundland and Labrador Folk Festival this past weekend.
Nick Earle and Joseph Coffin won first place, Lauren Eddy won second and Jacob Cherwick took third in the folk festival edition of the Statoil MusicNL NewFound Talent Contest, earning prizes worth a total of more than $6,000. Among them: a two-song demo production including professional arrangement, recording and mixing by Dipole Productions, Groove Den Studios and The Blue Room; a website domain for one year; gift certificates for Long and McQuade, a HeavyWeather video production and MusicNL membership.
Musicians aged 19 and younger performed for a panel of judges — Chris Kirby, Don-E Coady and Scott Hammond — during the folk festival, and Nick, Joseph, Lauren and Jacob were named as winners.
Another NewFound Talent Contest will be held in the fall during MusicNL Week 2014.
