• The Mother Daughter Ride (MDRide), a national fundraiser, will leave St. John’s in August. It involves two women — a mother and daughter team — who will lead other motorcycle riders on a 24-day trek across Canada ending in Vancouver. In partnership with SOS Children’s Villages, a national and international charity supporting orphans and abandoned children, all proceeds of the Mother Daughter Ride will enable children in Canada and around the world receive an education, a home and create a sustainable way of life.

Monday, Aug. 2

• The Whale Release and Strandings Group will have information and awareness sessions in the town of Twillingate and Fogo from Aug. 2-5. They will be visiting numerous wharfs and encouraging recreational fishers to take a moment, speak with them, report whale and turtle sightings. News and materials about the Whale Watcher Photo Contest, and the NL  Marine Mammal Strandings Network will be shared. See for more information about the group.
