While Newfoundland and Labrador musicians might not have picked up much hardware at the 2010 East Coast Music Awards, the weekend (March 5,6, and 7, 2010) held plenty of opportunity by way of showcases and conference events - including private one on one sessions with national and international industry delegates.
Artists from The Once to the Baytown Connection, The Navigators to Ron Hynes were the centre of attention in one room or another. The Telegram collected samplings of buzz performances by: Ashelin, Chris Kirby, Sherman Downey, Amelia Curran and Mercy, the Sexton.
As for conference events outside of the musical showcases, they held back and forths on the music business today as well as opinions on the future of the CD.
The musicians' business model is sure to continue to be a hot topic as the East Coast Music Awards roll into Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, in 2011.
