Newfoundland and Labrador band The Once (Andrew Dale, Geraldine Hollett and Phil Churchill) have signed to Canadian folk label Borealis Records.
The signing comes following the release of the band's self-titled debut, four 2009 Music Newfoundland and Labrador (MusicNL) award wins, a 2010 East Coast Music Awards nomination and appearances with Stuart McLean on his latest Vinyl CafÉ tour.
The Once currently has scheduled summer festival appearances across Canada and a fall tour in Ireland.
"Borealis is a label for musicians run by musicians. This means a lot to us and we are proud to join this folk community and have our work distributed from coast to coast and beyond. Last year at this time we couldn't imagine we'd be here. It's been a large year for The Once," said the band in a joint statement released this afternoon.
Borealis is a label filled with nationally-recognized folk acts from Newfoundland and Labrador's Ron Hynes to 2004 Juno winners for Roots and Traditional Album of the Year, Le Vent du Nord.
