Natural Resources Minister Kathy Dunderdale says the province is considering suggestions from Kruger on how it can increase support for the paper giant's operations on Newfoundland's west coast.
Dunderdale met with senior Kruger officials today. She told reporters afterwards that the company highlighted expenses such as silviculture, inventory costs and its spray program.
"We're certainly prepared to look at all of those," noted Dunderdale, who also serves as deputy premier.
Kruger has not put a dollar figure on what it wants from the province, Dunderdale said. "Not at this point in time."
Last month, Kruger slashed 130 jobs from its Corner Brook operation.
But Dunderdale said the company did not broach the idea of further layoffs during today's meetings.
"In all of our discussion, that's not in their thinking at the moment," she said.
