The body of a 10-year-old boy was recovered from the waters off the northeast coast of Newfoundland early Sunday morning, and search and rescue officials are continuing to scour the area for three others still missing, the Coast Guard confirmed.

"We found the body of a ten-year-old boy wearing a personal floatation device, but thick fog is hampering our search for the others," said search and rescue spokesman Neil Peet.

Four Coast Guard vessels and a Canadian Forces cormorant helicopter have been deployed to search for the two 40-year-old men and eight-year-old boy that remain missing, he said.

Six boats from Twillingate, Nfld., about 450 kilometres northwest of St. John's, have also joined the search, Peet said.

He could not confirm that the group were one family, but Peet said that the two boys are related.

The group of four departed from Twillingate on Saturday at around 3 p.m., and were reported missing just before midnight when the boat did not return as scheduled, said Peet.

If you're planning an excursion around the bay to do some whale watching you are better off using a certified tour boat operator than a small open boat.
