OTTAWA - Call it the Google of Canadian history.
An ambitious new search engine has been launched to allow one-stop searching for centuries of Canadian history.
The Canadiana Discovery Portal combs through more than 60 million pages of information from 14 different institutions.
Ron Walker of Canadiana.org says only a fraction of Canada's history has actually been converted into a digital format.
He says the cost and time involved in transferring old documents into new formats makes it a difficult task.
But he says it is essential for both the preservation and access to Canadian history.
