CAVENDISH, N.L. - Newfoundland and Labrador police say a 79-year-old man drowned Saturday after a fishing accident.

Police say the man, from the community Hearts Content, was fishing with his brother near Cavendish in Trinity Bay around 3 p.m.

The man stood up in their small aluminum boat causing it to overturn.

Both were wearing life jackets but police say the victim couldn't climb on top of the boat with his brother.

He lost his strength in the cold water, causing him to let go of the boat.

His brother pulled him to shore and performed CPR for almost 30 minutes but was unable to revive him.
