EDMONTON - The Alberta government has ordered a company to clean up the site of an old chemical plant in Bruderheim northeast of Edmonton.

Plant owner Heartland Industrial Park has been told it must install a groundwater recovery system on the site.

Heartland has also been ordered to develop a plan to decommission and reclaim the plant.

The plan must be submitted by Jan. 4.

The government says it had been working to try to resolve the situation for two years before issuing the order.

The plant hasn't operated since 2006.
