ST. STEPHEN, N.B. - RCMP are investigating a suspicious house fire in southwest New Brunswick.

The Mounties say firefighters were called to the blaze on Queensway Way in St. Stephen just after midnight on Monday.

They say the two-storey home's sole occupant discovered the fire in a porch area at the rear of the house, but was not able to extinguish it.

Police say he then fled the residence to call 911 and notify neighbours.

The blaze is being considered suspicious and the investigation is ongoing.
