MONCTON, N.B. - Two New Brunswick men have been fined more than $138,000 each for possession of illegal cigarettes.

RCMP say 44-year-old Adam Wilson and 25-year-old Kenneth Chiasson appeared in Moncton provincial court on Tuesday.

The charges stem from an incident in February in northern New Brunswick.

Police say officers were conducting a traffic operation on the Trans-Canada Highway in Edmundston when they intercepted two vehicles.

They say about 200,000 illegal cigarettes were seized from each vehicle.
