HALIFAX - RCMP say a man who was found dead after falling from a cliff in Cape Breton had been camping alone close to the cliff's edge.

Police say the 64-year-old man who was found on the rocks below the cliff Friday could have fallen Thursday.

Const. Brad Anderson says the man from the Bedford area of Halifax, whose name is not being released, was spotted by a tourist in Meat Cove just before 4 p.m. Friday.

Anderson says it`s unclear whether he wandered out of his tent late at night and didn`t realize he was so close to the edge of the cliff, or if he lost his footing.

The death is not considered suspicious.

An autopsy will be conducted in Halifax.
