L'ASSOMPTION, Que. - Francois Legault is heading to the national assembly.

The leader of the Coalition for Quebec's Future won his riding of L'Assomption in Tuesday's election.

Legault was running in a riding that was formerly held by the Parti Quebecois.

Legault was formally a high-profile member of the Parti Quebecois from 1998 to 2009, when he retired from political life.

Legault returned to politics and founded the Coalition party in late 2011, bringing together federalists, separatists and parts of the now defunct Action democratique de Quebec in the process.
