TRAVELLERS REST, P.E.I. - Passengers on a bus bound for Charlottetown were fortunate to avoid serious injury after their coach slid off the road late Sunday afternoon.

The RCMP say the bus landed on its side near the community of Travellers Rest.

Police say a few people were taken to Prince County Hospital to be treated for minor injuries.

The rest of the passengers were taken to a nearby residence where they'll remain until transportation to Charlottetown can be arranged.

A police news release didn't directly say if weather was a factor but the island is grappling with a major winter storm today.
